Wow, what a year 2009 was! Memorable in so many ways for so many fantastic reasons. It was the year of dreams being realised!!!!
The year started off in the most unexpected but most fantastic way, the stuff of dreams - Mina was BOB at Crufts!!!
This was swiftly followed barely three weeks later by Mina creating breed history in Ireland by becoming the first Bolognese to win Group 9 in Ireland.
Many shows during the following months saw Mina gathering many BOB's in Ireland and also a BOB in the UK.
In June we went to the European Dog Show in Dublin where Mina became European Winner 2009.
In July Mina was shortlisted to the final 12 in the group at Sligo Ch show and also shortlisted to the final 6 in the group the following week at Dundalk Ch show.
In September we went to Luxembourg Int Show where Mina was BOB, becoming Luxembourg Ch, International Ch and she was also placed 3rd in Group 9!
Just less than a month later we travelled to Bratislava to two shows - the National CAC show and also the main event - the WDS, where a record number of 59 beautiful Bolognese were entered from many countries across Europe and also the US. Mina came home as World Winner 2009 and also Slovakian Ch!
At the end of November we travelled to Amsterdam to the Amsterdam Winners Show where Mina was BOB, becoming Amsterdam Winner 2009 and she also gained the final point needed to become NL Ch!!!
One year - Crufts BOB, World Winner, European Winner, NL / LUX / SLK / INT* CH, Group 9 Winner - WHAT A YEAR!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to my friends for being there during this year, for being so supportive and sharing in my absolute joy (and many, many happy tears!!). |

World Dog Show, Bratislava, Slovakia
Going by the press info it was the biggest World Show in FCI history! Bolognese had a fantastic entry of 59 with Bolognese from many countries and for the first time ever the breed had two judges; Otakar Vondrous (CZ) doing bitches and Cristian Stefanescu (RO) doing dogs and BOB. What a trip it was!!!!!!
Mina was 1st in a large, strong Champion Bitch class, gaining the CAC. She was then awarded the CACIB - becoming the Bolognese female World Winner 2009!!! She then went onto go RBOB. BOB was a very nice male from Hungary - Predatino Aldo. As this was Mina's second CAC in Slovakia (the first won the previous day at the CAC show), she also became Slovakian Ch!
It was a long drive there and back however, it was well worth the long trip of 4175 kms!! World Winner 2009 and Slovakian Ch!!! The scenery driving through some of the countries was fantastic and what can I say about the German autobahns and the 'suggested' speed of 130kms!!!!. To read Mina's diary of the trip, please see the link in the 'News & Results' tab. |

Bratislava, Slovakia
We left Ireland very, very early Wednesday morning, 7th Oct and travelled through the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and then into Slovakia, arriving in the early hours of Saturday morning, 10th Oct. A long drive! Mina was groomed extremely fast and after accidently falling asleep (no alarm set!!!), we got to the show just in time! Judge was Urek Tatjana (SLO) and she placed Mina 1st in Ch bitch, CAC and BOB. 7 Bolognese entered today. The show was held outdoors, in Bratislava racecourse. The weather was horrible - rain! Not very nice with long grass and long coated white dogs! Thankfully the tent travelled from Ireland with us. It was great to see Italian and UK Bolognese friends there. Our hotel was located just outside the city, beside the river Danube in a nature reserve. Beautiful scenery and ideal walks!! |

Luxembourg Int Show.
It proved to be a fantastic trip! Mina was CACL, CACIB & BOB under judge Mr Hans van den Berg (NL). This made her International Ch and also Luxembourg Ch!! To finish off a memorable day, Mina was placed 3rd in group 9 under Mr Van Den Berg (Thank you!!!). Wow!!! It was a nice drive through the UK, France and Belgium, the roads were good. Especially so as it was my first time driving in Europe and on the left hand side of the road. So nice to drive on a four lane motorway, sun shining and radio on!! |

Crufts, UK
Mina was Best Bitch and BOB at Crufts under judge Mr Richard Haynes (UK)!!!!!!! I am so delighted and going around grinning like a deranged chesire cat! She did all I could have asked of her and I am so, so proud of her. There was no slowing her down in the ring, storming around it! There were 38 entries in Bolognese, with dogs from Ireland, the UK, Italy and Sweden. It was a very long day, with Bolognese scheduled as usual last in the ring. However, it was an ideal opportunity to catch up with everyone. Unfortunatley, our benching was situated a very long way from our ring, nearly opposite ends of the hall. Once the Havanese judging was almost over, we all moved to the empty benches beside the ring. There was no way we were going to leave our things or dogs unattended at the opposite end of the hall, especially considering the email alert that went out a few days before hand of 'people' going to target Crufts and let dogs free. There was a good atmosphere around the ring and a good entry in all classes. The breed results can be found on the Fosse Data site and the judge's critique can be found on the dog.biz site. Many thanks to judge Mr Richard Haynes for making it a truely wonderful day! |
